Several states have recently passed building codes that require protection against wind-borne debris. The Florida Building Code that went into effect on March 1, 2002, requires residential structures in coastal counties to have approved hurricane shutters or impact-resistant windows and doors that can withstand winds of 110 to 160 miles per hour.
